Black Hollyhocks have been established in the Bailiwick Blue home garden and vinery for some time. We are offering a limited supply of dried flower heads this year, as most have been pressed for use in house.
The blooms are exquisite. Bees adore them. For any garden which has space, they are prefect at the back of borders, self seed readily unless blooms future years of towering blooms are religiously collected.
This year we will also be stocking seed of these beauties. Depending other environment Hollyhocks are either hardy perennials of biennials. Flowering in their second year. Join our mailing list - no pushy pop up sign up here!
Akin to their anthocyanin cousin, Scabious Black Knight, Hollyhocks offer deep inky shades of dark blue, purple, mauve and even shades of khaki green. Best simmered gently or allowed to passively give their pigment up. Increasing the acidity will bring out miraculous shades of almost magenta pink and mauve.
