Black Hollyhocks have been established in the Bailiwick Blue home garden and vinery for some time. We are offering a limited supply of dried flower heads this year, as most have been pressed for use in house.
The blooms are exquisite. Bees adore them. For any garden which has space, they are prefect at the back of borders, self seed easily for future years of towering blooms.
This year we will also be season we will also be stocking seed of these beauties. Depending other environment Hollyhocks are either hardy perennials of biennials. Flowering in their second year. Yet to be listed.
Akin to their anthocyanin cousin, Scabious Black Knight, Hollyhocks offer deep inky shades of dark blue, purple, mauve and even shades of khaki green. Best simmered gently or allowed to passively give their pigment up. Increasing the acidity will bring out miraculous shades of almost magenta pink and mauve.
