Indigo: Seed, Pigment & Supplies

Natural Indigo, Indigo Seed, Pigment, Books & Vat Supplies

. Discover the World of Natural Indigo at Bailiwick Blue.

We grow and supply indigo in many forms — from seeds for cultivating your own dye plants, to finely ground indigo pigment and traditional dye vat supplies. Indigo is one of the oldest and most celebrated natural dyes, producing deep, lasting shades of blue on cotton, linen, silk, and wool. Whether you are learning to build an indigo vat, exploring natural pigment for craft projects, or planting indigo in your garden, our organic sustainably grown products make it easy to create with this remarkable dye plant.

Indigo has a long and complex history across the world. At Bailiwick Blue we grow Persicaria tinctoria — often called Asian or Japanese indigo, here in Guernsey, continuing a tradition which stretches back centuries across China, Korea & Japan.

We also offer indigo pigment from Indigofera species, historically cultivated in India and other neighbouring regions. While indigo’s global story includes difficult histories of exploitation and forced labour, today natural indigo is reclaimed by growers, artists, and makers who honour its heritage while working in sustainable, respectful ways. By growing, learning, and creating with indigo, we join a living tradition that connects cultures, craft, and colour across generations
