One of the old Japanese varieties. Kojyoko is a white flowering variety of Persicaria Tinctoria with tender stems which readily grow into bush.

Sow seeds into tray, prick out and pot on to establish. Prick out center leaves to encouraging bushing further, though in this variety plants bush well naturally.  Plant out after the last frost.

Best planted in a sheltered area, in full to partial sun. minimum 8 hours

Enjoys good quality nitrogen rich compost and is a heavy drinker. Water well.

First harvest is best done prior to appearance of buds,  ( green flower spikes from central stem ) harvest the branches leaving 6-8 cms of stem in the ground. This will encourage the second harvest to grow in more densely.

Harvest before blooms are setting to achieve best pigment. Harvesting after plants are blooming will alter the indigo quantity and quality, losing approximately 20-25% plus depending on the status of the flowers and as to whether they have set seeds.
