Officially known as Coreopsis Lanceolate, but also known as "Lance Leaf Coreopsis" and Early Sunrise Coreopsis, this plant dye is a new to Bailiwick Blue. Whilst am embarrassed to say, Coreopsis Lanceolate has been in situ for the last two years I had not, until yesterday Monday 27th November 2023, invested any time in dye trials.
To create the samples below, all fabrics were scoured ( washed) at appropriate temperatures and mordanted in appropriate alum to improve and fix the finished hues. These may be considered as the starting point for Lance Leaf Coreopsis, less any other modifiers.
25g Dried flowers in 1 litre of filter water ( ph7) for a period of three hours at a level 24 degrees C. Poste the initial creation of the dye bath flavonoids have continued to extract themselves from plant material. Likely enough to dye at least another meter of silk or a jersey knit t-shirt remains provided liquid volume is increased to give complete coverage.
25 grams is enough for the purpose of a small dye bath project, and ample for the bundle dyeing projects.
