For the creation of Indigo pigment and to formulate just about any indigo vat including the Dry leaf indigo Vat.
Calcium Hydroxide is used as an alkali and a flocculant.
As a strong alkali, lime raises the ph of the indigo vat, assisting to create an environment for indigo pigment to renature to its lueco or white indigo state, enabling the pigment to bond to fibre.
When making indigo pigment, lime gives indoxyl weight after aeration, so the indigotin can particulate, as seen in the second image, the lime drops particles out of suspension. Whether you are dyeing or making your own pigment Calcium hydroxide is your friend.
